17. Shar-Pei
The Shar-Pei is characterized by its wrinkled skin, which is especially noticeable in puppies until the flesh gradually grows in folds. The folds are cute, but they are prone to infections. The folds should be wiped off with a damp cloth. Like the Chow-Chow, the Shar-Pei has a black tongue, and since both breeds date back to ancient China, they were likely crossbred at some point.
The Shar-Pei is territorial and aggressive. Like other dog breeds, they can be trained for proper socialization, but in the case of the Shar-Pei, a professional trainer is needed, starting from puppyhood. However, this dog's easy-going attitude may make it a disappointing pet for children. The Shar-Pei is not interested in hugs or cuddles, and needs to live indoors. It is an intelligent but stubborn breed. It is not a good breed for beginner owners.
