Have A Puppy? Think Well Before Choosing These Dogs

21. Brrrr

The Boerboel, or "farmer's dog," was introduced from South Africa in the 1800s as a guard dog. In 1938, it was used to guard industrial diamond mines. It is very powerful and large, weighing up to 180 pounds. It is an intelligent and stubborn dog, so it should not be kept by an inexperienced dog owner. Experienced dog owners can bring a well-socialized pet with continued training and socialization from an early age. Doing so will prevent behavioral problems and dominant behavior. These dogs have a thick coat and enjoy outdoor activities in cool weather. However, dog parks are not recommended as they are very family-oriented dogs and may attack without warning. Boerboels should be kept on a leash at all times.
