26. Pit Bull
Pit Bulls are not a breed for everyone. Pit Bulls are strong dogs with very powerful jaws. If socialized and properly trained, this dog makes an ideal guard dog and an excellent family pet. They are also very loving and gentle in nature. However, Pit Bulls were bred in England in the 1800s for the spectator sport of bull and bear baiting. This blood sport was outlawed in 1935, but the equally aggressive blood sport of dog fighting took its place.
Due to breeding, Pit Bulls are aggressive. As one of the most aggressive dog breeds, they never back down from a fight with another dog. It is a fight to the death that Pit Bulls rarely lose. Leads are essential for Pit Bulls and these powerful canines should be kept on a lead at all times. Pit Bulls are the breed most often cited in cases of serious injury or death in dog attacks on humans. Also, dog owners are held legally liable for injuries caused by their pets.
