Have A Puppy? Think Well Before Choosing These Dogs

29. Greyhound

The noble Greyhound is an ancient breed that originated in Egypt and Greece. With long legs, arched backs and a lean, aerodynamic build, this dog was built for speed. Greyhounds are racing dogs, but they were originally bred by English aristocrats to hunt foxes, deer and hares. They have a strong prey instinct and are often muzzled, for good reason. To a Greyhound, children and small animals may look like prey. When you go for a walk, make sure you hold on to the lead! Greyhounds are very fast, the fastest of all dog breeds, so they will chase anything that looks like prey. On the other hand, Greyhounds have a sweet and gentle temperament, so they don't need much exercise. One short walk a day is enough, so apartment living is surprisingly suitable for this small dog. They are sprinters, not endurance runners, and are a low-energy breed that has earned them the nickname "40kph couch potato." Cold climates are not their forte. Their short hair makes them easy to care for, but they do require a doggy sweater on cold days, and a high back fence is essential - we recommend one six feet high.
